ASAP: Sponsor submits Affidavit of Intent to Sponsor a Charter School with Commissioner. Commissioner has 90 days to approve.
Soon: Reserve a time for MAC application review.
2 Weeks before submitting application: Send letter to school district regarding intent to start a charter school. (cf. Application Materials)
JULY 7: Charter Application Due
2 months (max) after SUBMISSION of Charter App: Submit application to the Minnesota Department of Education for start-up funds through the Federal Charter School Grant Program. Is this right, or is this now part of the application we are submitting? (cf. CSC?)
OCTOBER 2009: Expect to receive grant approval (cf. Application Materials)
Immediately after Charter Approval: Get Staff and Directors insurance and General Liability insurance. CSC recommends Minnesota School Boards Assn. Need these before we take any action as a charter school, including pre-operational. (cf. CSC Handbook?)
?Immediately after Charter Approval: Incorporate as a non-profit and register with Secretary of State.
90 days (max) after Charter Approval?: Submit bylaws and sponsorship contract to MDE.
